Romanian Peace Institute (PATRIR)
PATRIR is one of Europe’s leading training and expert centers for conflict transformation and peacebuilding. As host to the International Peace and Development Training Centre (IPDTC), PATRIR has provided training in peacebuilding and related fields to more than 3000 participants from over 60 countries, both at the centre in Romania and in requested programs internationally.
Through its Department of Peace Operations (DPO),
PATRIR is engaged in peacebuilding, violence prevention, and post-war recovery, in the Middle East, Central America and Colombia, Moldova-Transnistria, Nepal, Somalia, Aceh-Indonesia, Burma, and Southern Thailand.
The Institute’s Department of International Development Cooperation works in cooperation with the national platform of development NGOs (FOND) and the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to develop the country’s international development assistance to ensure effective and well developed policies and trained staff and human resources for both government and civil society.
PATRIR also engages in peace education programs in schools and the community, and organizes each year a 16-day campaign against violence against women and a 34-days peace education campaign.
PATRIR is a member of the European Network of Civil Peace Services (EN.CPS), Nonviolent Peaceforce, and the Global Alliance for Ministries and Departments of Peace. As such, it works for the development and promotion of capacities and infrastructure for peace at the national, regional and global levels.
PATRIR’s key operations are in the areas of: peace support operations and support for / engagement in mediation and on-the-ground peacebuilding processes; deployment of civil peace services and peaceworkers to the field; training and capacity building, enhancing capacities, applied knowledge and skills for peacebuilding and conflict transformation; institutional development and organizational strengthening, assisting local, national and international government and non-governmental organizations to strengthen their peacebuilding capacity; program development and design; policy development and advocacy.

CISR) was founded in November 1996 as an independent think-tank whose main goal is to develop knowledge about the Moldovan transition economy and create proposals for practical solution to social and economic policy. The Center is a NGO, non-profit, self-funded organization.

The main goal of the Center – is monitoring of the social opinion, analysis, forecasting and elaboration of recommendations for both state and nongovernmental institutions.
During these six years of work the Center “New Age” has gathered data array on the following thematic:
- contentment of the society with the passed elections – local 1999, 2005, to Supreme Soviet of PMR in 2000, 2005, of the President of PMR in 2001, 2006;
- trust of people in authorities;
- trust of people in public-political and social institutes;
- rating of recognizability and trust in mass-media;
- rating of politicians and figures;
- economic, political, social and spiritual problems exiting Transdniestrian people;
- political activity of population;
- political status and ways of development of Transdniestria;
- online (operational) polls;
- value orientation of academic youth;
- socialization of school youth in new conditions of labor market;
- migration of population;
The Center “New Age” permanently familiarizes the community through mass-media with its research results. The outcomes of the scientific-research activity are tested at local and international seminars and conferences. The Center “New Age” came forward with the proposal a number of theoretical and practical local and international seminars and conferences to be held.

Joint Commission for Democratisation and Conciliation (JCDC)JCDC is an independent voluntary group that comprises of men and women from Moldova and Transdniestria. The organization was created in 1992 in response to the problems and needs related to the violent conflict and development of a new independent state Republic of Moldova.
JCDC maintains a neutral position fostering through its activity creation of the foundation of a democratic state where the interests of all sides involved in the conflict will be met.
Purpose
JCDC exists to engage in, foster, and assist self-help attempts at:
- The resolution of the Moldovan /Transdniestrian conflict while dealing with its socio-economic, political and cultural effects;
- Strengthening democratic principles, processes and practice;
- Creating a socio-economic, cultural and political environment, conducive to the satisfaction of basic human needs;
- Conciliation and civil society development.
- Enabling ethnic and cultural diversity to enhance the quality of life.
JCDC activity
JCDC has maintained a proactive and responsive presence in Moldova-Transdniestria since 1992. In the main it has facilitated seminars, workshops, meetings, monitoring, analysis, and impact assessment. Participants are from different levels of Moldovan, Transdniestrian and Gagauz leadership, representatives of international organizations, official mediators and international experts.
JCDC has worked closely with Moldovan and Transdniestrian governmental representatives in the process of negotiation and Conflict Resolution, official international mediators from Russia, Ukraine and OSCE, experts from George Mason University, USA, and UK universities including University of Kent, London School of Economics among others.
JCDC is also in touch with NGOs working in other conflict situations.
Among the most important events organized by JCDC are:
- Three conferences of the representatives of different groups of people with different backgrounds from Moldova and Transdniestria and western experts in Nitra, Slovakia (1992, 1993, 1994);
- Bringing together the representatives of the local governments and state enterprises from two adjacent towns of Rezina, Moldova and Rybnitsa, Transdniestria. As a result an agreement on cooperation and good-neighboring was signed, 1995;
- Assistance and consultancy in preparation for three seminars at the University of Kent, UK by the Expert Groups (Moldovan and Transdniestrian governmental negotiating teams), 1994, 1995, 1997;
- Six study/ training visits to Northern Ireland with the participation of Expert Groups and presidential and parliamentary representatives from Moldova and Transdniestria (1994-1998). Northern Ireland political leaders and government officials participated with other leadership levels in these events;
- Four seminars under the common title “Living with Conflict” in Albena, Bulgaria (1997-2000) involving NGOs, students, journalists, military leaders, governmental experts, and parliamentarians from Moldova, Transdniestria, Gagauzia and Northern Ireland, mediators from Russia, Ukraine, OSCE, international experts and professionals from UK, USA, Canada, and Germany;
- Youth seminars with the participation of students, youth and faculties from Transdniestria, Gagauzia and Moldova under the common title “Democratic partnership of the leaders of youth NGOs of Moldova-Transdniestria-Gagauzia in the resolution of the problems of XXI century youth”, “Youth on the Threshold of the XXI Century”, (Tiraspol, Transdniestria 1999), “Youth - the foundation for a peaceful and democratic development”, 4 – 6 of May, 2001, Chiadyr – Lunga, Gagauzia and “Perfection of NGOs’ activity for strengthening interregional cooperation”, 26 – 28 of October, 2001, Baltsi, Moldova;
- Joint Moldo/Transdniestrian festivities for children “Happy New Year and Christmas along the river Dniester”;
- Facilitation of organization in partnership with Foundation for International Security (FIS), London of three seminars “Moldovan/Transdniestrian constitutional issues” involving the official negotiating teams of Moldova and Transdniestria, 1999-2003;
- JCDC has been a member of the Working Group of NGOs of CIS working on prevention and resolution of conflcits. In this framework during 2002-03 JCDC was coordintor of the Assembly of NGOs from Beylorussia, Moldova and Ukraine working on presevention and resoution of conflcits.
- Jointly with Foundation for International Security (FIS), London in the framework of the of the program “Moldovan Economic Initiative” JCDC has organized two seminars involving economic agents and officials from Moldova, Transdniestria and Gagauzia: «Economic issues in divided Republic of Moldova – identification of needs», 2003 and The problems of stable and sustainable development – opinions of Moldovan and Transdniestrian representatives of business communities”, 2005.
- The program „Moldova, Transdniestria, Gagauzia with joint efforts – to stability and development” 2004-2005 aimed at exploration of the idea of federalisation of Republic of Moldova as one of the ways of resolution of the conflict.
- Provision of support services to international agencies seeking to improve the social-economic situation in Moldova.
JCDC is not aligned to any party political grouping. It seeks only to advance the interests of all the people of Moldova through generating and supporting movement towards the resolution of conflict and the development of the democratic process.

Russian Information Agency “New Region - Pridnestrovie”The editorial of RIA “
New Region 2” was opened in Tiraspol in January 2006. From the first days the young Agency managed to gain large popularity both in Transdniestria and neighboring Moldova.
Indeed, in the first month the number of unique visitors of the web-site www.nr2.ru/pmr exceeded 7 000 (for comparison: other Internet-Agencies accredited in Transdniestria, including Russian resources, hardly had 1-2 thousand visitors per month).
The popularity of the Agency “
New Region 2” in Transdniestria and Moldova stably grows and during the last few months the number of unique visitors daily consist not fewer than 2 000 people, and per month this indicator is over 50 000.
The opening in January 2006 of RIA “
New Region 2” had the goal of creation of thorough informational fluxes from Russia, Moldova, and Ukraine to Transdniestria and back from Transdniestria.
The informational materials of Agency “
New Region 2” in Transdniestria are cited by all Transdniestrian mass-media resources, also by a number of newspapers, radio stations and TV channels from Moldova. The Agency “New Region 2” is a most important source of information for foreign diplomatic missions and international organizations, accredited in Chisinau.
The Agency «New Region 2» (website NR2.Ru) was founded on the 6th of October 1998.
At present the Agency provides information from all regions of Russian Federation, Ukraine, Crimea and Transdniestria.
In 7 regions of Russian Federation, Kiev, Ukraine, Simferopol, Crimea and also in Tiraspol, unrecognized Transdniestrian Republic are established regional editorials of RIA «New Region 2» that have organized their own production of news. Beside Ukraine, Crimea and Transdniestria the Agency plans to open new foreign representations.
During 2007 it is planned the opening of regional editorials in St. Petersburg, Abkhazia, Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporojie and Lvov and of «New Region 2» offices in Baltic States, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan.
In the same informational niche (provision of information from RF and CIS), alongside «New Region», work only two Russian informational agencies - REGNUM (project of Boris Sorkin and Modest Kolerov) and regions.ru (at the moment the project of Irina Hanineva).
«New Region» - is an actively developing informational resource with a permanently growing auditorium. At present DAILY it constitutes 20 000 – 30 000 unique visitors (according to the rating of top.mail.ru) who daily look through more than 60 000 pages.
At present RIA «New Region» is the most visited internet mass-media resource on the huge territory between Volga river and Kamchatka. If to count only internet mass-media and informational agencies, the «New Region» holds the first place over the boundaries of Moscow and St. Petersburg. It is the undoubted leader, by the traffic of visitors, among internet mass-media of Ural, Privolgia, Siberia Far East, the same is true for Ukraine and Transdniestria.
The «
New Region 2» has a serious and well advanced circle of readers, among them: journalists, political scientists, analysts, policy technologists, active politicians and businessmen – decision makers.

Among the most important projects implemented by CITD are:
- In 1992 was produced the documentary “Transdniestria: it is time to collect the stones”. The national opening night of the documentary in the cinematograph “Patria” was attended by the representatives of the leadership of Moldova and Transdniestria. The documentary was awarded the wining first place at Yalta 2001 movie festival. In 2002 the documentary was shown at the International Congress of National Minorities in New York, April 2002.
- The documentary “Moldova: Russian vector” was shot in 2002 and got the first wining place at Yalta 2002 movie festival. It also was nominated at the Moscow movie festival.
- The movie “Pushkin in Moldova: the last duel” was produced in 2003 and got a special prize at the Yalta movie festival;
- In 2004 the project “Interethnic forum of Moldova. Creation of a common informational space for dialog of country’s people”. The project was implemented with the support of OSCE and financial assistance of the MFA of Kingdom of Norway. As partners of the project were the DNT Association and “P&P Studio”.
- Six live television programs (1,5 hour talk-shows) were broadcasted on the 1st Channel of the Moldovan television dedicated to focal point of interethnic relations, resolution of the Moldo-Transndniestrian problem. For the first time in Moldova the programs were discussions in direct (on air) between the representatives of the leadership, journalists and experts from Chisinau and Tiraspol.
- In the framework of the program “Ethnic-forum”, in 2005 and 2006, were produced two documentaries: “Gagauz Corner” and “Ours-Theirs” about the problems of the Gagauz and Russian diasporas in Moldova. The documentaries were nominated at the movie festivals in Yalta and Slovenia.
